Something Found on a Battlefield

When a man disappears
into the substance of smoke,
an elevation occurs.

The haunt of torn faces,
contorted skulls,
the muddied unity
of uniforms–
a pleasure marches
for your sky.
A dead-face, already greyed,
speaks, “you are more
than merely alive.”

  1. This hits hard, especially when I think about what veterans and soldiers have endured. Makes me wonder more about my Grandfather as well, the horrors he may have came across as a young man. You communicate this evocatively with such immersing figurative language. Bravo! ❤
